Turmeric golden lattes can be tricky to perfect, not because they are hard to make but because getting the ratio of ingredients just right is important.

I don’t know about you but I have tasted golden lattes from more than a few different coffee houses, and each has been unique.

While variety can be a good thing, if the ratio of ingredients is off, turmeric lattes can end up too strong and bitter.

Turmeric is healthy for you but it also has a strong and distinct flavor, so a little bit goes a long way.

Vegan Turmeric Golden Milk Latte Recipe

This vegan Turmeric Golden Latte recipe is a simple recipe to make, we’re talking 5 minutes tops, so it’s great for busy caregivers who may not be able to take a lot of time out of the day for themselves.

I also enjoy drinking this latte in the evening after work, when I want to relax and wind down. It contains zero caffeine, so I often take it into my sauna to relax and destress before bedtime.

Handy Kitchen Tools Needed To Make A Golden Milk Turmeric Latte

Favorite mug. Pick out your very favorite mug for this delicious drink. That is the very first step. 😉

Strainer. Using a fine mesh strainer helps break down the spices into a fine powder which makes it easier to blend. Having a strainer and the bamboo whisk are what help to make golden lattes super smooth and creamy.

Bamboo whisk. This is an important tool to have when making lattes as it helps to prevent clumps when blending.

ProTip: If you do not have a bamboo whisk, you can use a regular stainless steel or silicon whisk but I find the bamboo ones work the best.

Measuring spoons. To measure out all of the spices of course.

Frother. This is optional but if you want to create a bit of froth and foam for your latte, go for it.

Vegan Turmeric Golden Latte Ingredients

  • Plant-based milk. These days, there are plenty of non-dairy milk options to choose from, such as almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, and more.
  • Ground turmeric, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon. The basis of all delicious golden turmeric lattes!
  • Pure vanilla – I like to use organic vanilla extract that does not contain alcohol.
  • Pure maple syrup – look for brands that are nothing but pure maple syrup, with no added ingredients like sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Maple syrup has awesome health properties, processed ‘maple syrup’ does not.
  • Black pepper – using black pepper in your turmeric latte increases the bioavailability and absorption of curcumin by 2000 percent!

optional ingredients you may want to consider

  • Cardamom. This goes well with all of the other spices.
  • Alternative sweeteners. Instead of maple syrup, feel free to use a sweetener of your choice, such as honey, monkfruit, date sugar, etc.

Tips For Success

For this golden milk recipe, I like to use creamy dairy-free milk such as unsweetened soy or cashew milk but feel free to use any type of milk you desire.

Instead of maple syrup, feel free to use any type of natural sweetener you prefer such as honey, date syrup, stevia, or monkfruit.

It is best to sift your spices through a fine mesh strainer. This prevents the spices from clumping.

Using a whisk is very helpful. A whisk helps to break up any clumps and blend the spices easily.

Everyone has their own personal preference so feel free to tweak this recipe according to your desired taste.

Some people use a milk frother to foam up the milk in their turmeric lattes but I don’t. My taste buds are particularly sensitive, and I often get a metallic taste in my lattes when I use one. That said, I do know many people who enjoy using the frother.

If you really want to keep things simple, you can bypass making your own golden milk turmeric powder with the individual spices, and purchase one of my favorites called Golden Milk.

It’s a vegan and dairy-free herbal supplement that has the perfect ratio of turmeric, black pepper, ashwagandha, dates, cardamom, and vanilla.

My daughter visited me one summer here on the Cape and fell in love with this golden milk powder, so much so that she ordered some of her own right on the spot!

DIY turmeric lattes are also called golden milk lattes because of the yellow/golden color the curcumin in the turmeric makes. Be careful not to get this drink on your clothes though because the turmeric definitely does stain!

How To Store

Turmeric lattes are best to drink right after you’ve made them. That said, you could let your latte cool down, and then pour it over ice if you prefer your Vegan Turmeric Golden Latte cold.

Golden Latte Variations

Here are some variations of this turmeric latte recipe. I encourage you to experiment and have fun developing your own turmeric latte recipe.

Iced Turmeric Latte. Instead of heating the plant-based milk, pour it fresh out of the fridge into a tall glass filled with ice. Add the spices that have been mix with a bit of warm water for smooth blending. Finally add you sweetener and stir everything to combine. Super simple and super delicious!

Turmeric Tea Golden milk tea. You can make golden milk tea hot or cold, whichever you prefer. To make tea versus a latte, use filtered water instead of milk.

Espresso Turmeric Latte. This is another one of my favorites. To add a little kick, consider adding a shot of espresso to your turmeric latte. This is the perfect morning pick-me-up!

Pumpkin Spice Latte. If you’re feeling a little fall-ish, you can add 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin spice to your golden latte. The perfect cozy drink for cooler weather.

Chai tea latte. To make a chai latte, add 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom and 1/4 teaspoon of cloves to bring out that distinct, slightly spicy, flavor.

Health Benefits of A Turmeric Golden Latte

A turmeric golden latte is more than just a warm comforting drink, it also contains many health benefits.

The main ingredient of a turmeric latte is, you guessed it, turmeric! Turmeric is a root and a cousin of the ginger family. It is used in cooking and is a major ingredient in curry powder.

Turmeric’s most active ingredient is curcumin, which gives turmeric its beautiful golden color.

Curcumin has been researched extensively and is well known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which help support the immune system.

Researchers are looking at how curcumin can help with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and heart disease, as well as memory and neurocognitive conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.

Turmeric, Curcumin, and Cancer

Turmeric is a wonderful earthy spice, and with curcumin being researched for many medical conditions, it is no wonder turmeric has become so popular in recent years.

The active ingredient in turmeric, may not only prevent cancer but may also stop existing cancer from growing and spreading.

Curcumin kills cancer cells through several mechanisms, making it difficult for cancer cells to stay alive. And all the while curcumin leaves normal healthy cells alone.

You can take comfort in the fact that you are receiving some powerful health benefits when sipping a Turmeric Golden Latte.
